Read An E Book Day

Today LS2 have been reading E-Books because it is Read An E-book Day. I use the Tamaki College Overdrive to find and read E-books. E-Book day celebrates modern day storytelling. The book that I am currently reading is called Storm Breaker. It is about a boy who is told that his uncle is was a spy. His uncle has died and he takes over his uncles mission. Reciprocal Reading Task

In Reading today we have had a session with one of the reciprocal reading experts, and his name is Fraidoon. On our DLO we have the words people in our group can't define, things we need to work on and things we did with success. To do Reciprocal Reading we need to collaborate and take risks to be the leader. I had fun doing this and it was great to work with people who engaged in the learning as much as I did.

Kate Sheppard Sketchnote

For this task we had to create a sketch note. We had questions that we had to answer. The learning conversation that I had with my group helped me complete this because I was stuck on a question and talking to my group helped me get ideas. 

The Suffrage Movement Summary

For this task we worked collaboratively to write a 25 word summary about what the suffrage movement was. We watched a video explaining the suffrage movement. I was working with Jeremiah, Mataio and Tiava. One thing that I found interesting was that people risked their lives so that women can vote. We all contributed to this by talking to each other to decide if what we had written made sense, and if the information we had found answered our question.

Exploring Myths and Legends

For this task, Mataio and I had to retell a part of the myth, how Maui slowed the sun. We used Storyboard That to create this comic strip. Mataio and I chose the scene when Maui captured the sun. We did this because we are learning about myths and legends. We were practicing to show not tell using dialogue. One thing I that was hard about creating this storyboard was that I wasn't to familiar with the site so we had to get used to it.

Summarizing DLO

I was working with Mathias, Tiava and AJ for this task. First we listened to a you tube video about Samoa and its dances. We then made this DLO and had to write down 20 important words. Next we had to chose the 6 most important words. Then we had to write a summery using these words.

Chunky Challenge Word Cloud

For reading I made this word cloud. It was part of the chunky challenge I did. For this challenge I had to present the word I found out about. The chunk that I did this week was "est". I found out some new words while I was working through the presentation. On the presentation I had to find words that have "est" in them. Then I had to write a simple compound and complex sentence with a word that you have found. If you want to create a word cloud click here. 

Ivory Ban In China

For this current event task we looked at the ivory ban in China. Elephants tusks are made from ivory. They are used for art and manufacturing. We looked at the different points of views about ivory ban. Some people think that it is good while others hated the decision. The people who cut off the tusks are called poachers. I worked with Te Wai for this DLO. I think that China is doing the right thing because elephants could become endangered.

Chunky Challenge

For this task I had to find words that have the chunk ake in it. I put down all of the chunk words that I already know, then I found some new words that have ake in them. I then decided to put all of the Ake words on to a word cloud.  

Is Recycling Really Helping Our Planet

Today for reading we were asked a question to get our brains thinking. The question was: Is recycling really helping our planet. We created a padlet to record our information. We wrote down our opinions. This is called prior knowledge. Most of our group said yes because it has reduced rubbish in our landfill.

Kuaka Reading

Today for reading LS2 were working on a multi modal site about Kuaka or Godwit. We started our task today. We were put into groups and I was in the R group with Juanita, Manu, Eric, Mia, Ana, Jasmine, Paige, Tai and Zeba. We were making connections without looking up stuff on the internet. We had to think of some ways that we use transport today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. When we did this we also had to write down what kind of problems there was when we used some transport.

Pigeons Opinions

This is my DLO about pigeons that I have been working on with Harry, CJ, Ana, Mere and Silivia. We had to make an opinion about pigeons. Are pigeons special or are they pests is the question that we had to make a choice. For the past two weeks we have been working on a multi modal site. This was a big reading that we have completed. I think pigeons are special because they helped deliver messages in the war. Other opinions are in this DLO. 

Opinion About Pigeons

This is the task that Cj, Afu, Sa Kae, Harry, Mere, Silivia, Ana and I were working on. we had to create an opinion about pigeons. Are pigeons seen as pests or are they special? In this DLO we have written an opinion about what we think about pigeons. We had to write one of our own and then we took a group picture.

Reading Strategies

These are the Game I played Today. I was practicing to make connections answer questions and Inference. I was doing this for reading. I think that these game will help me because these are the areas that I need to work on. If you want to play these games click here.

Multimodal

For reading, Mrs Anderson designed this Multimodal. It is just like google slides but it is laid out on a page. I think that this is a good idea to do this because it is easier than going back a few slides to find one piece of information. I prefer this better because I can find work easier than slides.

Read 20

Today LS2 were using read theory. We do this everyday for 20 minutes and LS2 call this read 20. This helps me understand the text, think about the questions that I need to answer and looking back at the text to find information that I am unsure about. You can earn points and names on this site and I think that it is a good site for me to practice my reading.   

Attributing Images

Today I was attributing my photos. Attributing your photos is like saying thank you to the person that took that photo. We did this to practice our attributing skills. People do this because some images are not labeled for reuse.

Reading Games

Today I was practicing how to identify the authors purpose in a text. I learnt how to tell the difference between Persuade, Entertain and Inform also known as P.I.E. This site helped me by letting me know about what the authors purpose and how I can identify it.
