For writing we have been learning about hyperbole. We had to write a paragraph that included 5 hyperbole.  We had to write a paragraph about the long walk home. A hyperbole is an exaggerated statement that is not to be taken seriously.

Why Is It So Important To Keep Oral Storytelling Alive

It is important that we remember to pass down the storytelling of Maori people and keeping it alive because it can keep the Maori language alive.

For this task we had to watch a video about Maori oral storytelling. We watched three videos talking about oral storytelling. We had to work collaboratively with our partners. We had to answer the question Why is it important to keep oral storytelling alive. The hard thing about this was that the videos were in Te Reo so we had to read the subtitles.

Exploring Myths and Legends

For this task, Mataio and I had to retell a part of the myth, how Maui slowed the sun. We used Storyboard That to create this comic strip. Mataio and I chose the scene when Maui captured the sun. We did this because we are learning about myths and legends. We were practicing to show not tell using dialogue. One thing I that was hard about creating this storyboard was that I wasn't to familiar with the site so we had to get used to it.

Metaphor DLO

For this task I had to put some metaphors in order. I did this for writing. We were matching and correcting the metaphors. Next we had to highlight the metaphor in a sentence. I enjoyed this task because it was kind of challenging for me. A metaphor is like a simile but a simile uses like or as.

Simile Illustration

This is my DLO illustrating a simile. First we had to correct the similes on a google drawing. Then we had to create a DLO illustrating a sentence that we picked. I picked as blind as a bat to illustrate.

Simile - Language Features

This is my simile illustration that tells you its as slippery as an eel meaning that an object is slippery like an eel. This is an example of a simile. A simile is when you compare something to something else using as or like. Here is a list of some other similes.

Im as busy as a Bee
It’s as slippery as an Eel
She’s as quick as a Fox
He’s as blind as a Bat
She’s as wise as an Owl
She’s as happy as a Lark
He’s as slow as a Snail
He’s as stubborn as a mule
He’s a gentle as a Lamb
You are quiet as a Mouse
He’s as strong as an Ox
I’m So sick as a Dog

Why We Shouldn't Throw Rubbish On The Floor Explanation

Why We Shouldn't throw rubbish on the floor

What do you think would happen if we drop rubbish on the floor? Did you know that you could be killing sea live by dropping your rubbish on the floor. It can also attract mice and rats. You could also be polluting the water.

If we drop rubbish it can end up in the water. This can pollute the water and stormwater drains. Fish will think that it is food and they will try to eat it.

Rats get attracted to food scraps and that is why we pick up rubbish. If we drop rubbish it can attract mice and rats. It is not good to have mice around because they can carry diseases that can harm humans.

If we drop rubbish it can kill animals that live in the water. Fish will try to eat the rubbish and they can die from that. Turtles in particular will think that plastic bags are jellyfish and they can choke and die.

This is what will happen if you drop rubbish on the floor. Do you think that the next  generation will want to live in a dump.

This is my explanation on why I think that people shouldn't throw rubbish on the floor. I did this because our topic is Te Taiao O Tamaki.

Owl Narrative

Leap Of Faith

As I was glaring at the Mountain from my dirty, rugged nest I wondered what life would be like if I could fly and see the world myself. I was only a baby and I hadn’t learned to fly yet, I had to be a bit older says my mum(Mum Owl). I live high up in the tree with my mum and brother. I was feeling really sad that I could not fly but one day I would.
“Come over here baby owl now is the time you are going to fly” Squeeks Mum Owl
“Ok i'll be right there” I said with a happy tone.
I can’t believe it, I'm gonna learn to fly

At this point I was really nervous because I have never left this twig filled nest and this is like my sanctuary, My home. I looked down and saw that leaf’s that covered most of the floor and fallen branches that Mum Owl used to sit on.
“Are you ready?” Says Mum Owl in a happy tone.
“I Don’t need to fly Mum who needs to fly?” says Baby Owl in a nervous, shaky voice.
I gathered up courage to jump but I started to panic mid air and flapped my wings like I was getting taken. Boom! I hit the ground.

When I woke up it was hard to do anything so I just stayed on the twig filled floor. After I got better I was feeling disappointed in myself because I wanted to show my family that I could do fly but I couldn’t. It was just another boring day staring at the mountain from the nest.

“Get up” Shouted Mum Owl as she gestured me to come with her. I got up and ran with her to the edge of the nest.
“Now what you need to do is rotate your wings” As Mum Owl was showing me
“Like this” As I Copied.
I was ready and nothing could stop me. All the adrenaline in my body was telling me to go. I tucked myself into a ball and ran as fast as I could. I jumped. A second later I flapped my wings. I looked at the floor thinking I was gonna fall again but to my surprise I wasn’t. I will never forget the freedom I felt on that day. The wind breathing on my feathers. This was the happiest I’ve ever been.

“Thank you Mum Owl” I shouted as I was flying towards the mountain that I had been gazing at everyday. “Freedom!” I cried as I was landing. I could see my nest in the tree from the mountain. From that day forward I learnt that if things don’t go your way just get back up and try again because it might work.

Moral: Always try again if you don’t get something your first time.

This is my Owl Narrative that I wrote yesterday. I had to pretend that I was a baby owl taking my first flight. I had fun writing this because I liked pretending that I was a fling bird.

Sketchnote

These are my sketch note's that I have been doing for the past week. Our First sketch note was something that LS2 knew about which was Questions. The second one was about athletics, The third was about Rio and the last one was about Olympic medal Ceremony. We looked at examples and then we learnt that it doesn't have to be perfect, We could use bullet points, We can use symbols, Numbers and it has to be in our own words. LS2 Use sketch note because it is a more fun way of taking notes. It helps me understand because I can do it the way I want. Other people don't need to understand it, Only I do. It also helps me make a connection. It also tells me a learning story that I can understand. Sketch notes is way more fun than writing notes in your book. I can stay focused because I like art and drawing. You can also draw and write notes any way you like.

Olympic Venues

We have been learning to consider both sides of a provocation so that we can make an informed opinion. Mrs Anderson asked us to create a DLO about Olympic venues. Mrs Anderson showed us some abandon olympic venues then told us to think, should hosting countries spend so much money on something there gonna leave to rot. To make our informed opinion we had to think about both sides to this and then make our opinion. My DLO shows a Olympic venue when it was first created then the Olympic venue now. At the bottom is the point of views that I thought about then there is my opinion.

Story Starters

Lost in the amazon

“Ooo” Said the orangutan. He saw that big horrifying giant that is doing something. After he sees the big giant something hits him in the head and he fell unconscious. The orangutan woke up in the forest. A forest where water surrounds him. It was the amazon that he wanted to visit but there was one problem. It was getting dark and he didn't know what to do but he had one choice, he was going to survive by himself. He needed to build a simple shelter and he needed food so he could stay awake overnight. He remembered how to get food but the shelter was the hard part. He thought to himself how am I going to build with a bright light. Someone comes and captures the orangutan. It was the thing that hit him earlier. He doesn't know where he is going but he knows it's bad news.

Don’t Talk To Strangers!

Today for writing, Mrs Anderson picked a topic on story starters for the year 7's to write about. I was partners with Calvin and we wrote a sentence each. Our topic was write a myth about an orangutan lost in the amazon. We also had to make a moral to the story we wrote.

Story Starters

This is my story I have created today about a sneaky gorilla who explores a newly discovered planet. I had to make it a horror story. I went to a site called Story Starters It created a topic for me so I could write about it. Story starters generate Ideas to start off your story.

Collaborative Writing

We may look like rugged old shoes, but we have a story. It all started when we saw the love of our lives, we were really happy to see them but that all ended. One day we were walking beside them, chatting about everything. All of a sudden I saw something come out of a box, something that worried me. It was enormous and creepy, the so called human that was wearing our friends ran away and accidentally knocked us into the water. I was very scared but I never gave up, I came out all dirty. That’s when things got worse, the human who stood up was laughed at. I was so scared because I got taken off and got thrown on the street. We sat there for a few days before someone took us and used us as a ball. I remember the last kick and that was the last time we were ever touched, we sat there keeping each other company wishing we still had our love.

50 years later or somewhere that long, we were dug out of the dirt, apparently whoever found us must have thought we had some things that were (very) rare. We were sent to a place that look like we were on display, It was a big house, it was called a museum. We were put in this thing which had this weird invisible force field from keeping us stolen (I guess). I thought that I was a test subject at first but I was never touched. So many of those human things came over looked at us as if we were famous and flashed us with lights that were as bright as the sun. I liked how people were concentrating on me. It made us...feel...special.

This is my writing I have done today with Harry. First harry wrote a sentence than me and we did that to create a story this is the story that me and Harry created. After proof reading it this is the end result

Quick write

Sciences lab quick write

I heard a loud explosion in the sciences lab. I ran in and saw a brown rat. “Ahh!” screamed Jack as he ran out the door. Jack rushed out as fast as a bull and everyone came and looked at him. The principal came and told him to meet him in his office.

This is my quick write I created. It is a made up story. We learnt about DRAFT and had to use it in our quick write.
