Screencastify - Christmas In Switzerland

This week LS2 is learning about how to work as a team and how to work collaboratively. We discussed about different countries who celebrate Christmas. We were split into groups and had to choose a country that we would like to research about Christmas. We decided to research about Christmas in Switzerland. We learnt a lot of new things about how people celebrate Christmas in different ways. There are four languages spoken in Switzerland which are German, Italian, French and Romanch .  Above shows you our DLO about Christmas in Switzerland and we made a screencastify to record our thinking about Christmas in Switzerland.

Maths - Cleanup Crew

For maths today, we were doing some geometry coordination. First of all, we had to complete four pages of reading maps. Then, we were given a piece paper with instructions and a piece of paper with a half completed dog. Our challenge was to follow the instructions to complete the dog. We then had to color the dog in. For this task, we had to remember and use the ladder rule (You can't go up and across but you can go across then up)

Google Game

Today I played a google game. The aim of the game was to collect all the carrots on the level using arrows. The game was like using scratch because you had to code to control the bunny. The game was a bit hard but at the start of every level there was a tutorial on how to use the different codes.

Tech Reflection

This year every Friday our class went to Tamaki College to do Cooking, Graphics and Hard Materials. It has been a fun year to go to Tamaki because it gave the Year 8s a look at what it is like at college. In Cooking we learnt how to make a lot of yum stuff. Our teacher was Mrs Heka for most of our sessions. The next activity we went to was Graphics. In Graphics we made our own clocks out of wood. It was fun looking for designs. The final design I chose was a basketball. The last activity we did was Hard Materials. We were making stained glass designs. The design I chose was a shield with a cross on it. Out of all of the rotations, my favourite activity was Cooking because it was fun to learn how to cook.

Summer Learning Journey

On Friday Hazel came in to talk to everyone about the summer learning journey. She told everyone that if you participate and come first, second or third you will get a prize. The theme for this summer learning journey is traveling back in time. The prizes will have things like lego, slime, fidget spinners and other cool things. It sounds like fun to do and you also get something if you are the most active blogger in the summer.

Tamaki College Tech - P.E

On Friday the year 7 and 8s went to tech. We did our normal rotation for the morning. We then split into groups. One group went to Robotics, Another group went to Social Science and another group went to P.E. I was in the P.E group. Our teacher was Mr Moyes and he told us that our focus was on teamwork. We then played a warmup game of infinity tag. After we were warmed up we played benchball. The aim of this game was to chose two catches. If the catcher catches your ball you join the catchers. When your whole team was on the platform your team wins. Mr Moyes added one interesting rule. If you got the yellow ball in the hoop your team won automatically. The other team won because they got the ball in from half court. We then played a game of Samoan Softball where you hit the ball with your hand and run to the wall. It was really fun at P.E because I like running around. This was our last session for the year. Looking back this year for tech was a fun year with cooking and making clocks. Thank you Mrs Ferguson, Mrs Heka and Mr Grundy for teaching and doing fun things with us.

Fire Safety - Smoke Alarms

In LS2 we have been talking about to keep safe from fire. Having smoke alarms all around your house can be very helpful because smoke alarms sense smoke and makes a loud screeching sound to alert you. Make sure to have one in every bedroom. Make sure not to have placed in the kitchen because when you are cooking it will trigger the smoke alarm I have worked with Oh Hsen to complete this DLO.

Fire Service Summary

I have created a DLO explaining how the fire service helps our community with my group: Oh Hsen, Tiava, and Lyric. The first thing we did write down 20 important words then choose 6 from the 20. The last thing we did was make a 25 word summary using the 6 most important words that explains how the fire service helps our community.

Police Visit

On Thursday the police helicopter came and landed at Panmure Bridge School. They came and talked about how they help out in the community. The helicopter was cool to watch come but the dogs came as well and everyone was excited to see the dogs. When the dogs came out they did tricks. They then gave an example of what the dog sniffs out. They then showed how the dog catches someone trying to run away. A man came out with padding and the dog ran after him. It was a fun to experience the helicopter landing and seeing a dog in action.

Fire Station Visit

As part of our inquiry this term we have been learning about people who help out the community. On Tuesday LS2 went to the Mt Wellington fire station. We learnt all about there job. One interesting thing I learnt about firefighters is that they are first responders. This means that they can be the first people to help the injured.

How Children Learn At School

How Children Learn at School

Are you aware that children watch and copy other people? Learning is important for children because they are going to grow up and become adults. Children ask a lot of questions, talk and have fun this helps them to learn and experience as they grow.

Firstly, children copy what they see. They copy things from other people, television and especially their parents. They are awesome observers and this will help their imagination grow. They often follow a certain role model. They listen to things that they are highly interested in. Kids also have a lot of energy.

Kids have a lot of energy and they use this energy to play with friends and talk. They have numerous ways to play and have fun. When they play it helps them to gain more experience in the environment they are in. Children also ask plenty of questions.

Children ask questions when there confused. They take a lot of risk when they ask questions. They ask questions to help them understand. When they ask questions they improve the skill that there learning about.

Learning is vital for children because they be our next generation. Children will take risk and make mistakes. They will learn with and from each other.

For writing we have been practising to write an explanation for our writing test. Me and Ofa worked together to write this explanation. While writing this we learnt that there is a title, introduction, paragraph 1 2 3, conclusion and to add a hook. I also learnt how to link my paragraphs together. I think that this helped me because it gave me a recap of all the things that I need to use in my writing test. After we finished we gave our work to other groups and they proof-read our work.

Production 2017

On Wednesday night we had our production for 2017. This is the first time we were in front of an audience so I was nervous. We did this because we were celebrating 60 years of Panmure Bridge School. In LS2 we have been doing 70's and 80's songs. We have been practising a dance so that we could present our dance to everyone who came. Pasifica and Kapa Haka also performed. Both performances were well done. Tonight we will be dancing again for everyone who comes. Thank you Zoe for teaching us the dances.

Cross Country

Last week Panmure Bridge School went down to Dunkirk and had our Adidas Fun Run. The school leaders went down and helped set up. The first people to run was the young students. The last people to run was LS2. It was hard because we were running through mud. Daniel and Aj came first and Te Wai came second. I came 8th place out of the year 8 boys. At the end of the run I felt tired and proud of myself that I finished.

Today for the last session of kiwi can we played games for the whole session. The first game we played was called object. We had to turn a random object into something useful. My group won two times. The next game we played was hand soccer. Our group one with 4 points. The last game we played was ten down. We had to pass it around and everyone had to touch the ball onto the ground. Kiwi can today was fun because we were all getting active.

Scale Drawing

Last week I finished my scale drawing. For this task we had to find an image that we were going to enlarge by drawing it. We had to rule 1 centimetre grid over our original design. We then doubled everything and made a grid so that we could enlarge it. First we drew grid lines on an A3 paper. One thing that was hard was that we needed to make sure that we were copying the image square by square.

The Princess Bride Character Introductions

Today I created a DLO about The Princess Bride film study. I chose to make a DLO on how the characters of the movie were introduced. I created this to show what I learnt about the characters introduction. An interesting thing that I found from the movie is that Inigo and Fezzik turned good and helped the protagonist.

Winter Learning Journey

For this task I had to form an opinion about predators and if killing them is good. I think that killing them off is a good thing because possums carry a disease called bovine Tb, There skin can be used to make clothes and much more. I also think that they should be killed because they feast on endangered birds eggs. They are also destroying our native wildlife. They are also costing farmers $35 million dollars for the damage done by possums

Winter Learning Journey

For this task I am adopting a native pet. I am going to adopt a Tuatara. A Turatara is a lizard creature that is native to New Zealand. I chose this because the Tuatara caught my eye. The Tuatara is a carnivore so they eat things like insects, beetles, spiders and much more. Tuatara's mainly live on offshore islands. Facts I fond out about the Tuatara is that is has survived for up to 200 million years and the Tuatara can live up to 100 years.

Winter Learning Journey

For the task that I chose, I had to watch a clip about Laura Dekker. Laura Dekker sailed around the world at the age of fourteen. I had to write down 5 questions that I would want to ask her if I got the chance to interview her.

My questions are:
Was there a time when you wanted to turn around and go back home?
What made you want to travel the world?
How do you feel that you have achieved sailing around the world?
What did you dislike about your adventure?
What did you like about your adventure?

They are: Explore the coast lines of beaches, Walk along Mission Bay, Drive to the native rain forest of the Waitakere Ranges, Head to the Auckland Domain and watch people play cricket and explore the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

Winter Learning Journey

Winter Learning Journey

For the first task I had to look at the New Zealand People website and find three interesting facts. The facts that I found interesting was over 400 years before Christopher Columbus, the rest of Europe was worried about falling of the edge of the world. The second interesting fact that I found was New Zealander AJ Hackett created the bungy jump. The last interesting fact I found was Rugby Football is the most spectated sport in New Zealand.

This is my animation that I have made with Tiava and Mataio. In this animation we had to explain what the summer and winter solstice are and how seasons work. I new thing that I learnt while making this was that the summer solstice is the longest day in the year and the winter solstice is the shortest day in a year.

Lohri - Indian Winter Solstice Celebration

For this task I had to find out about another countries winter solstice celebration. We did this to find out about how other people celebrate Matariki. I worked with Tiava and Mataio. Tiava Mataio and I chose to do India. When we did this we had to remember to attribute the images and websites we used. On the DLO it tells people about when the celebration starts and why it is celebrated.

Dance

Today for dance we were recording our dances so we could look at it and see what we needed to improve on. Freeman, Joshua, Sanujan and I were in a group. When we did our dance we had to think about the timing of the dance, the music and the shapes that we made with our body. The first thing that we did was practice our dance. When we looked back at the recording, my group found out that we needed to work on the speed of the dance because some people were going to fast.

Wednesday 14 June 2017

Rubbish Solutions

Today for inquiry we had a provocation that we needed to explore. I was working with Mathias,
Oh Hsen and Eric. As a team we had to come up with our own opinions and chose which one was the best but we couldn't speak. Our provocation was about the rubbish in our school and how we can resolve the problem of rubbish. Our whole group came up with this opinion: We can put out more bins because people might be lazy to walk to the bin.

Thursday 8 June 2017

Dance

Today for dance we were working on our dances that we created. I was working this Joshua, Sanujan and Freeman. The first thing we did was warm up. This week we used Tiava and Eric's warm up. Next we were reminded that the music we used had to go together with the dance. We also needed to be in sync with the music. We then talked about the speed of our dance and that the music needs to be the same pase of the dance. After that talked about the mood of our dance. This helps tell your dance story.

Haiku DLO

For Poetry we have been learning about Maui and how he created fire. I have worked with Tiava to complete 5 Haiku poems. A Haiku poem is a three line poem with 17 syllables, that is 5 syllables for the first line, 7 syllables for the second line and 5 for the last sentence. We put the haiku poems in order of the story.
